PIRES BACKS ARSENAL STARS

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires says he is very confident that the current players of the club can put up a strong challenge for the Premier League title, despite the lack of Champions League football, and with serious competition in the forthcoming season.

Arsene Wenger, who managed the retired footballer, is still continuing in his role as manager after he decided to stay for two more years. The Frenchman has started spending money to add top players ahead of the season. (more…)

Mourinho’s United To Mount Title Challenge

When Manchester United announced that Louis van Gaal had been relieved of his duties at the end of last season, there was only ever going to be one real candidate to take the hot seat at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jose Mourinho has had a certain affinity with United and their supporters since leading Porto a shock victory in the Champions League back in 2004; when the Portuguese’s side knocked Sir Alex Ferguson’s well-fancied Red Devils out of the competition. Even then, Mourinho always seemed destined to take over at United in the future… (more…)

Rooney Tops Pile of Manchester United Goalscoring Legends

Manchester United has a long history when it comes to late goals, winning dramatic derbies and even a Champions League with breakthroughs right at the death in injury time. However, it is hard to remember any moment in the past when a late equaliser at Stoke City led to as much widespread praise and acclaim as it did on January 21st.

At any other point in Wayne Rooney’s career, his late free kick at the Britannia Stadium would have been seen as an important effort which rescued a valuable point in the club’s continued search for a place in the Premier League’s top four. But this most golden of goals actually took his total tally for United to an astonishing 250, surpassing Bobby Charlton’s record to make Rooney the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. (more…)

Guardiola quick to make mark at City

After Manchester City’s struggles last season under former manager Manuel Pellegrini, the appointment of Pep Guardiola has quickly renewed confidence at the Etihad, with the former Barcelona and Bayern boss wasting little time in adapting the club to his methods. The two times Champions League winning manager has enforced strict requirements for his squad, and with the Spaniard seemingly not content with his current assets, we can expect to see more activity in the transfer market before the window closes at the end of the month.

Guardiola has initially signed a three-year contract, but has set no time-frame for his departure, despite candidly admitting it won’t be his final job in football. (more…)

England and Wales gear up for Battle of Britain

The upcoming European Championship promises to be an intriguing tournament thanks to the increase from sixteen to twenty-four participating teams, with three of the Home Nations travelling to France in the hope of glory. England, Wales and Northern Ireland will fly the flag for the United Kingdom this summer, and while the other two will make their debuts at a European Championship, Roy Hodgson’s men will look to end fifty years of hurt in all competitions.

It felt inevitable that the Euro 2016 draw would throw up a Battle of Britain during the group stage, and it did not disappoint with England set to face Wales in a mouth-watering Group B clash that could prove pivotal. Betway have installed the Three Lions as favourites to win the game, but although both nations may have contrasting ambitions as to how far they can progress in the tournament, they will value the fixture as a great opportunity to get one over on a rival. ROONEY BEMUSED AT SUBSTITUTION

Wayne Rooney perhaps did not see his substitution coming against Aston Villa and expected himself to go through the game.

He was surprised and distraught at the same time when Van Gaal called for him to be replaced by Jesse Lingard and so were some of the Manchester United supporters as well, after all it was Rooney who paved the way for the goal that gave 1-0 advantage to the Red Devils and eventually gave them the victory too of that same margin in that Villa game.
