Nemanja Matic Has No Excuse For Manchester United’s Champions League Exit

Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has admitted that the team can provide no excuse for their lacklustre showing against Sevilla in the round of 16 of the Champions League. The Red Devils failed to show up over the course of the two-legged tie, and they eventually lost by a 2-1 aggregate scoreline.

The Red Devils played out a dull 0-0 draw on the road to Sevilla last month, and this had put them in a strong position to beat the Andalusian outfit at home, where they had lost only to Manchester City this term. However, their approach towards the game was negative from the start, and they came on to haunt them in the final 20 minutes with Wissam Ben Yedder coming off the bench to score a match-winning brace. Romelu Lukaku did manage to score in the 84th minute, but it only turned out as a consolation.

Jose Mourinho justifies team selection against Liverpool

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that both Eric Bailly and Marcus Rashford had suffered minor injuries on international duty. The Red Devils drew 0-0 versus Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon with a couple of forced changes with Bailly and Marouane Fellaini not making the matchday squad. Rashford, however, had a cameo appearance in the second half in place of Anthony Martial, although he could not have much of an impact on the match.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Mourinho said, “I don’t think we have many options. Fellaini was injured with the national team, Bailly was injured with the national team and Rashford was injured with the national team. We don’t have many options. I never complain about that. I was just mentioning it to you because the next question is maybe why is Rashford not playing? Why is Bailly not even on the bench? But, okay, since the moment we know the players we have available, we thought about the match and we thought about our options and we made these decisions.”

Sir Alex Ferguson stated that new Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho would improve Manchester United.

He believes that the club will improve massively under Jose Mourinho and that he believes that the club will start winning trophies again.

He believes that Jose Mourinho had not lost his winning touch when he was sacked by Chelsea. For Ferguson, the Portuguese manager made a mistake to return to Chelsea for a second spell. In his experience, it is always difficult to go back to a place where you have enjoyed success in the past because there will be an increase in expectations.

Sir Alex Ferguson said that you cannot deny Mourinho’s achievement with the different clubs he has managed. He has been Champions with various clubs and in different leagues and he has also won the Champions League with different clubs. He believes that he will turn Manchester United in one of the biggest clubs in Europe. (more…)
