Chris Sutton urges Manchester United to consider Jose Mourinho’s position

BBC pundit Chris Sutton believes Manchester United should consider the position of Jose Mourinho following their disappointing 3-1 derby defeat at the hands of Manchester City. The Red Devils had come into the game on the back of three successive league victories but their performance at the Etihad was far from impressive as they barely posed a threat to the home side.

Following the game, Sutton stressed that the Red Devils were truly outclassed in the encounter and there is already an enormous gap between them and their cross-town rivals. He added that the club should seriously assess the position of the Portuguese tactician and think twice before offering him a transfer budget for the New Year. (more…)

Manchester United confirm signing of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto

Manchester United have wrapped up the second signing of the summer transfer window with Diogo Dalot arriving from FC Porto for a reported fee of £19.3m. “Diogo is an extremely talented young defender with all the qualities to quickly become a great player for this club. He has all the attributes that a full-back needs: physicality, tactical intelligence and technical quality, combined with a Porto Academy mentality which prepares players for the maturity they need at the professional level. United will miss out on the title – Craig Burley

Former Chelsea ace Craig Burley believes Manchester United will miss out on the Premier League title this season. The Red Devils have made a quick start off the blocks with 19 points from seven matches, and they are only trailing Manchester City at the top on goal difference.

Speaking to ESPN, Burley feels the Red Devils have made a step forward with resounding wins over the weaker sides, but there is a still a gap between them and the Premier League crown, he said: "I think clearly United have made a step forward, the results would suggest it. Against weaker teams last year they gave up points, they weren’t as clinical, they weren’t as strong, as organised. But I’ve not got them to win the league. I don’t think they’ve taken a big enough one for me but I do think they’ve moved in the right direction." (more…)

Mourinho’s United To Mount Title Challenge

When Manchester United announced that Louis van Gaal had been relieved of his duties at the end of last season, there was only ever going to be one real candidate to take the hot seat at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jose Mourinho has had a certain affinity with United and their supporters since leading Porto a shock victory in the Champions League back in 2004; when the Portuguese’s side knocked Sir Alex Ferguson’s well-fancied Red Devils out of the competition. Even then, Mourinho always seemed destined to take over at United in the future... (more…)
