Italian journalist Romano revealed that the Gunners have not been in contact with either the player or his representatives. He went on to say that Arsenal will sign a new midfielder this summer in time for the new season but Manchester United player Van de Beek is not one of the options on their list of midfield targets.

Manchester United midfielder Van de Beek has had a disappointing last 12 months following his move to Old Trafford from Dutch Eredivisie champions Ajax Amsterdam. The Red Devils paid around £38m for him but he was unable to break into the starting XI over the course of last season thanks to the form of Bruno Fernandes. The Dutch international has already been advised by several ex-Ajax Amsterdam players to seek a move away from the Theatre of the Dreams to rescue his ailing career and the Gunners were said to be interested in him before the transfer rumours were shut down by the aforementioned Romano.

Van de Beek made the 26-man Netherlands squad for the ongoing Euro 2020 squad despite his lack of playing time at club level with Manchester United only for him to sustain the injury that would rule him out of the entire tournament. The Manchester United player won’t have been the first choice in the Netherlands midfield as he has fallen down the pecking order at national team level as a product of his club form with the Red Devils. He missed the first game for the Netherlands at the Euros as they beat Ukraine 3-2 in an exciting clash.
