The big guns will return for Manchester United ahead of their Premier League home clash with Aston Villa on Saturday lunchtime after they were rested for the Carabao Cup third round exit at the hands of London club West Ham United on Wednesday night.


Manchester United faced the Hammers in two separate competitions within the space of three days. The Red Devils secured a late 2-1 win over West Ham United in the Premier League courtesy the strike from England international Jesse Lingard who came off the bench to score the winning goal. The Hammersavenged the result by eliminating Manchester United from the third round of the Carabao Cup thanks to a 1-0 win away from home.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the Manchester United manager and he made several changes for the second West Ham United game at Old Trafford earlier this week. The ex-striker changed his starting XI completely as he gavefringe players the chance to fight for a place in his Premier League team. His West Ham counterpart David Moyes also made several changes for the Carabao Cup match and he was able to secure his first win at Old Trafford as a manager thanks to the first half strike from Lanzini. Argentine midfielder Lanzini was one of the ten changes that Moyes made to his starting line-up.

Portuguese international Cristiano Ronaldo and other big guns are expected to return to the starting XI for the Villa game. Ronaldo has started his second Manchester United spell with four goals in three matches in all competitions including three goals in two Premier League outings. The Portugal international skipper has found the back of the net in all the games he has played since his return to the club after 12 years.

Manchester United have the incentive of moving above Liverpool and Chelsea at the Premier League summit if they beat Villa at home on Saturday afternoon.
