It really isn’t a surprise united lost this! some of the boys who beat Chelsea last year are now in the first team, others have moved on. Credit to Chelsea, that boy feruz is special.

jesusrapedkids · May 9, 2012 at 2:33 am

feruz will end up scotlands best player in a few years by miles. only good thing celtic have done is brought him through their ranks

Well iv been following the youth all this year and previously but this years team is looking great but hopefully they get given a chance, which i think they will because of new fifa rules . Firstly i want to see likes of Kakuta, Lukaku, Mchrecan and Kevin Bruyne along with Bertrand given chances or loaned out to a premier league side with promise of decent game amount then think about Piazon and Chalobah. Other maybe another season in youth or reserves.

The thing that impressive me the most about Chelsea youth team is the fact that even when they are a goal down that doesn’t affect their spirit. They also move the ball quicker something the senior team not doing.

Yh dead on.To be fair,I think foreign players have tons more flair, but British/Irish lads are tougher, more loyal yaknow.I think the main problem with bringing through youngfella’s is the expectations these days.Young players need time to get better but these days results need to be instant.Tbf,Wegner is the only big manager that consistently brings thru players.I think most academy players have talent, they just dont get the chance to get it out of em.

You know how many players did City boast about having coming through.. and who is left, now the jump in standards of their 1st team has risen.. Micah Richards.. That’s it.
Joe Hart was a man when he was bought.

Even the foreign lads with quality, it’s not easy for the major clubs to transition them in, Morrison’s English & he has the quality.. & he’ll go on to show that, Pogba will show his too, whether for United or Juventus. Just worry about Holding on to Barmby eh?? haha

Zoffie7 · May 9, 2012 at 6:40 am

Yea Carlton Cole started a number of games for Chelsea as well, we’re talking about creating players that are good enough to last in the 1st XI. That’s the thing that academies have not doing well, because of the jump in standards.

When a Wilshere comes through, it’s great, you know he has staying power in the Arsenal first XI, he’s an English lad that has been there since he was 8.

Proper academy, not hello & Bonjour from France or, even nabbing a bonny ol’ lad from Scotland.

UltimateZZZThe · May 9, 2012 at 7:28 am

Ive seen him in a lot of games dude, he has talent and he reminds many ppl about Mata go & watch him play then come back

IrishRu5T · May 9, 2012 at 8:07 am

welbeck & cleverly have actually made the first team. The 3 above only got sub appearances [and richardson got a couple random matches at LB].They’re more than capable to be first team players.

Zoffie7 · May 9, 2012 at 8:13 am

We’ll see if Welbeck & Cleverly become undisputed starters at United or if they have Kieron Richardson/Greening/Eagles type careers at United.. lol

Zoffie7 · May 9, 2012 at 8:35 am

Think you’ll find, in that past generation of the ‘previously’ big 4 that dominated that decade only English players to come through the academy & make a significant impact in the starting lineup were Arsenal’s A.Cole…Liverpool’s Carragher & Gerrard… & Chelsea’s John Terry.

You had to spend 30 million on Rooney & Rio each.. So a little less pompous attitude like you’re something special when you have to rely on bringing in talent from elsewhere BUDDY. smiley-face.

Zoffie7 · May 9, 2012 at 8:38 am

We all remember Scholes, Neville etc all being from the United academy when you provided players for England way back when… It was easier then, it’s more competitive now. Back then Dalglish could buy a team full of British players & be successful.

Love to see the English players you brought through from the academy that have been consistently & regularly in the starting lineup for United like John Terry has been for Chelsea or Gerrard for Liverpool in the last decade?
